Here are my Week 2 recipes! (For the back story on my recipes, see my earlier post.)Dana Weber’s recipe for library marketing success: Website UsabilityIngredients:FamiliarityConsistencySimplicityInstructions:Your website should work in a way that’s familiar to your users as they’ve built expectations from using other websites and products. If your website works in a familiar way as other tools they’re using, your users will have no problem learning to use it.Consistency also has a positive effect on learnability. The page layout and interactions should be consistent across your site. As users explore and use more areas of your site, they’ll easily be able to learn to use these new areas because they work the same as other areas. Finally, keep it simple. The simpler something is, the easier it is to learn. Keep your website limited to the most basic features and only add features when it becomes clear they are needed. For more information, see this Library Connect how-to resource by Chris Jasek:http://libraryconnect.elsevier.com/lcn/0603/lcn060325.htmlDana Weber’s recipe for family cooking finesse: Kids ColeslawGetting kids to try new foods is a lot like helping users learn how to use new resources— learnability is about familiarity, so include new foods with ones they already know and like!Ingredients:1 cup shredded apple1 cup shredded carrot1 cup shredded purple cabbage? cup raisins? cup plain or vanilla yogurt? tsp cinnamonInstructions:You do the shredding and let the kids do the blending. Having them help prepare the foods you serve will also help kids eat them! The colors are so much fun in this salad and you can improvise with other sweet vegetables that your children love. Mix in the raisins and then add the yogurt and cinnamon. Use low-fat or non-fat yogurt to cut calories or chose a flavored one such as pomegranate for a sweeter taste. Serve cold.Do you have library marketing recipes to share?
